Recruiting for Summer Projects March 3, 2008 Grace

Filed under: general — Grace @ 4:12 pm

As we get near to the midpoint of the second semester, it’s time to start promoting our summer projects again. This year, the department will be holding two service learning tours: one to Hubei, China, in July, and another one to Gansu, China, in August.

Most of you will know students who have been on one or another of the tours in the past. If you don’t, this is what we do in the tours: we will be going to a rural area in China to do some computer setup and teach computer skills to primary and secondary school children there. This should be a good chance for you to get to see a side of China that you don’t often see, as well as to put some of the concepts that you learned in class to practice.

The dates are: early-to-mid-July for Hubei, and mid-August for Gansu. The cost is not known yet, but the department will sponsor most of the costs.

In addition to this, we also have a variety of summer projects that are coming up, and some opportunities for paid summer jobs.

If you are interested in any of these projects, sign up outside the Computing General Office on the 8th Floor of the PQ Wing before March 14, 5pm. Signing up does not mean that you have to participate, since we will still need to meet you and interview you. But it does put you onto our mailing list so that we can keep you updated.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of us, or stop by PQ826 or PQ830 with your questions.

Good luck and hope to see you more often this summer!
